Oz resident artist and Louisville native James Thornton was on hand on Thursday January 28th 2010 for the official Kentucky Derby Festival poster unveiling held at the beautifully restored Henry Clay Building in downtown Louisville. James spent his evening signing posters and meeting those who were impressed with his work and unique style.

KDF honored James with the customary selection of the ‘artist’s choice’ for the beverage of the evening, which was served in a commemorative glass featuring James’ contemporary fleur design and dripping Maker’s Mark wax, hand dipped right on site.

The evening also featured a silent auction consisting primarily of custom framed renditions of James’ poster, which brought a competitive level of creativity from nearly twenty area professional framers.

This years poster art has many adaptations for a variety of other merchandise such as shirts, hats, glasses etc…. These items and the posters are available for purchase from officially licensed KDF merchandisers.
