Car Photography
She’s your prized possession and she’s never looked better, so isn’t it time to capture her beauty forever?
Here are some tips for photographing your car:
- Shoot on Pavement, Not on Grass – Unless its an off-road vehicle, gravel is another no-no. Find a large, open paved area to shoot your car. A parking lot will do just fine but look for pavement without lines painted on it.
- Photograph The Whole Car – The hood ornament is good, but don’t you want to see the beauty of your whole car?
- Go Low – Cars look bolder and more aggressive when shot from ground level, especially from a distance. Don’t turn your car into a three-wheeler- be sure all 4 wheels are visible in the photo.
- Timing is Everything – The middle of the day, with the sun directly overhead, is the worst time to take photographs. It results in high-contrast bright and dark areas that show the car poorly. Instead, take photos in the early morning or in the late afternoon/evening hours. These late times of the day produce the warm, vibrant colors that bathe the car in a soft, even light. If you mount your camera on a tripod, you’ll be amazed at the photos you get during twilight, just after the sun has gone down.
- Shoot in the highest resolution possible for high quality results.
