Photo Restoration
Photo Restoration is both art and science.
Oz’s experience in photo restoration and photo retouching is extensive. Our technicians have taken damaged photographs, digitized them and then used advanced computer software to improve contrast, sharpness, and color levels while eliminating flaws like scratches, damaged areas, and wrinkles. Take a look at these results!
This photo was badly damaged from years of abuse. Deep scratches, scuffs, folds and cracks along with fading and discoloring are present.
Restoration artists borrow useful information from undamaged areas of the photo and digitally clone or repaint into the areas where information is damaged or altogether missing. After restoration, the same photo looks great.

With a little time and experience a photo can be returned to its original state, but retouching is just the beginning. Once your photo is restored, you can digitally transfer it onto quality canvas, photo paper or fine art paper. You can also choose to recreate the photo image with classic artistic styles like:
- Oil
- Watercolor
- Pencil
- Pastel
From a high resolution original, you could blow up the image to almost any size and even turn your photo image into wallpaper! Got it poster sized? You can leave the framing to Oz.
If you can picture it, you can do it.
To get started, contact a restoration specialist. They’ll discuss your particular needs with you in order to determine what they will need from you in return. Once that’s done, then follow their guidelines for supplying the image and provide any specific instructions on what you want them to do.
Here’s the basic workflow:
- Take your photo to your restorer or send it to them.
- For email submissions, if you cannot scan the photo yourself, you can take it into an Office Depot or Kinkos and they will scan it for you.
- For most images, scan them for at least 8” x 10” output at 300 dpi and put it on a disk as a TIFF or JPEG/high quality setting. Not sure? Ask them first.
- Then send the disk. If you send the original instead, properly package it and insure it if it is valuable to you. Make sure you ask for it back!
Often times they will restore your photo and email you a proof for your approval. Once you approve, they’ll print and mail you your finished photo or alternately contact you for pick-up.
Be sure to ask them about enlarging your photo, and remember to visit Oz if you decide to have it custom framed. At Oz… We love to frame.
