Sports Photography

No matter what sport you’re shooting,  here are some tips to help you take a better sports photo:

  1. Know Thy Sport – To get the shot you want, be aware of the players’ positions and the basics of how the game is played. You need to anticipate and take risks to end up with the perfect sports photo.
  2. Stay Focused
  3. Observe and pick out minute details. You must be prepared for the right moment. This gives you the chance to control the settings and click the particular moment on camera. Sports photography is all about the moment. Timing matters.
  4. Location-Location-Location – To get the right shot, you have to place your self in exactly the right spot. Give yourself the space to move around and pick interesting angles. Try to avoid background clutter: the background should highlight the image in the foreground for maximum impact.
  5. Pre-Focus – To get a great sports picture, you need to develop skills that help you anticipate the moment. Try to focus in advance on the subject or area. This will allow you to press the shutter at exactly the right time.
  6. Use High Shutter Speeds – A high shutter speed will freeze the moment. For indoor sports photos, use a higher ISO to accommodate low light. Burst mode will allow you to capture images with continuous shooting. Shoot in the highest resolution possible for high quality results.
